One thing about language that always confuses me is when someone
ask me a question. I noticed some cultures are very direct. Direct questions can actually be kind of impolite depending on how it is asked.Did you know in English there are three types of questions in: direct, indirect, and question tags. Direct and indirect questions are used to ask for information you do not know, while question tags are generally used to clarify or confirm the information you think you know.
Examples of direct questions that can sound impolite :
🗣when does the bus leave !
🗣 how old are you ?
Now, to make these questions a little more polite add “excuse me” or “ I beg your pardon “
🗣 excuse me, when does the bus leave?
🗣 I beg your pardon, can I ask how old you are ?
See the difference ?
I’ll share more later 🤗
