, I have been so busy.Here is another lesson on phrasal verbs with the word “up.”
In these examples, “up” means to divide.
Break up: when you separate from your boyfriend, girlfriend, or partner.
Examples:
- My girlfriend and I broke up last week.
- I think he will break up with his boyfriend.
Chew up: to bite something into smaller pieces.
Examples:
- The dog always chews up his toys.
- The baby chewed up his bottle.
Crack up: to laugh really hard. When you laugh so hard you feel like you will break.
Examples:
- I’m cracking up at that joke.
- That picture makes me crack up.
Cut up: to cut something into smaller pieces.
Examples:
- You should always cut up your old credit cards.
- I’m going to cut up the tomatoes for the soup.
