It's my birthday today. 😄, I'm 28 now. Ah, I feel quite happy

On my birthday last year I read Tanizaki's A Portrait of Shunkin, one of my favourite stories, and posted an excerpt from it. Today I read his A Night in Qinhuai and would like to share a little part from that. ✨

Excerpt from A Night in Qinhuai by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki.

When the walls ended and we came to open land, a damp, cold, night breeze flowed stealthily toward me from nowhere in particular. The more these gloomy surroundings sank into me, the more vividly the image of the beautiful woman I had seen just thirty minutes before rose in my breast. No matter how much I thought it over, I could only believe that encountering such a beauty in that forsaken city had been like a dream.
