I need to clear this up for anyone who wants to learn real English

. It is not correct to say, “I am going on holiday.” Holiday literally means “holy-day” and is reserved for a day of religious observance where people get the day off from work. A “vacation” is an extended period of time that someone takes off from their place of work.

    What? "Going on holiday" means the same as going on a vacation, it's British English but I've heard it used here too.

    Everyone can speak however they want. Vacation and holiday are just simply not the same thing.

    I understand that the British, the Australians, and possibly South Africans say it, but in the U.S., to go on vacation is different than having a holiday.

    Hi nick! One 🙋🏽‍♀️ question, how do you use holiday?? Is it plural?? Or just holiday for one day or several as well?? In Spanish we use plural and singular thanks!

    @Patty it can be singular or plural. For example, Monday is a holiday. That means we have off on Monday. Or I can say to you, “we have fifteen holidays per year at my job.” That means that you get 15 days off per year at your job.
