As an IELTS teacher, one of my pet hates was when students used

the word 'delicious' to describe the food they ate when traveling. Even though it is a direct translation for 好吃, IELTS examiners hear the word all the time and will not give any additional credit for it. 

What I would do in this position is describe the features and the characteristics of the good. Instead of saying 'delicious', you can say, "I really enjoyed the wide variety of food in Sichuan. The food was very spicy and they used a lot of red pepper in their food to give it extra flavor. I tried a lot of different dishes when I was there, like pickled fish, known locally as 酸菜鱼，as well as something you might find disgusting, rabbit head. These are all considered local delicacies that people come from all over China to eat."
