“In a pinch”
When someone is in some minor
trouble or difficulty, they are “in a pinch.” But this idiom usually is followed by advice of what to do when you are “in a pinch.” For example, if you are baking and run out of walnuts, you can use pecans in a pinch. If you are in a pinch for time on the way to work, skip breakfast and avoid construction and school zones while driving.
