ことしのなつにまたいきたいとおもっています。- I would like to go back this summer.
⛺My virtual trip around the American West continues. Today, I'd like to present a National Park right on the Canadian border - in fact a portion of the park extends into Canada. This is Glacier National Park in the Rocky Mountains in blue sky country - the state of Montana. It's a magnificent place of lakes, waterfalls, majestic mountain peaks, glaciers (that are quickly shrinking) and plenty of wildlife including grizzly bears and black bears, bighorn sheep and mountain goats.
I had spent three and half years in Montana and I first visited the park in 1993. Since then, I have returned many times, drawn to its serene beauty and rugged wilderness. My last trip was at the end of September 2015. This was the latest in the season I have ever traveled there and it was a truly amazing experience. The park was getting ready for the long winter season already with lodges and businesses about to close. The winters are very harsh, and while the park remains open year-round, much of it is inaccessible in winter.
During my visit, the fall colors were at their peak and the warmth and brightness of the sun gave me the opportunity to see and photograph the park in all its glory. I only had two days to spend there, or really just a day and half, but I had such a great time. Since there are so many photos I'd like to share, I will continue this in another post and talk more about what you can expect to see in Glacier. Until next time...
