I would say parents are obsessed with education. students literally have no life. I think this is very wrong.

Thanks I have no idea about other east Asian countries. And it's problem is differ from individual to individual. Especially about attitude. In Korea, Education is emphasized a lot and so competitive. There are so many statistics or research result that prove Korean high school student's studying time is too much. In my personal opinion, Education should be focused not only on adolescent period, but throughout life. But, sadly there are many people who dont study after university graduation.

Korea student just study to enter the good university school. So most korean student can't think what they want to be future until enter the uni. So many student lose way after become adult.

@JK So it’s more of a competitive attitude. Do you think it causes negative effects on Korean students?

@Saul Kim Oh, so it’s a race to get to Uni and then they’re kinda lost from there?

It is super serious problem in korea. But it won't solve easily. Because there are too many people in small land in korea, and korea don't have any natural resourae. So this is really sad destiney

Korea's society is very competitive so as school system. I think the school system have to be changed. For instance, a high school student stays at school 7AM to 9PM on weekdays for a fuxxin college. I am not doing that kind of shxx to my kid if i have one tho. 😢

@Ori_Ulani I wanna say it is not positive. Competitive attitude might be general around the world. But the thing is whether or not students can find meaning in the atmosphere.

@Ori_Ulani yes. Many student don't like they's major. Because they was just follow the idea made by the older generation

@JK Ohhhh ok, you’re right. I think they should be working toward something and not just because they’re being pressured to

    KR

@Saul Kim Oh! So are they forced to choose majors based on what their parents think would be best for them?

I think Japanese situation is similar to Korean. Many students realize that they have no idea for their future at the moment of job-hunting.

In China, education is serious taken by parents. But that's only from the most practical sense of it. It's all about entering a good uni(and so to ensure a better future, which may not necessarily come). There is a lot of pressure in the high school. And in recent years that pressure and competition move to the elementary school. That means kids lose much of freedom and happiness from elementary school till entering the university(in the university, it's up to you to decide how to deal with your time, hanging out with friends, computer games, or study). I hate this. It's wrong. I didn't expect that Korea is also like this. Maybe eastern Asia countries share the same culture. It's so wrong but what we can do about it?

@Ori_Ulani yes. But Korean students seem to be in harder situations than Japanese. Because I think Korean focus on their academic background more than Japanese.

@Ryan I would have never known that it would affect the kids. At that age it should be about fun and making friends

@Pigeon So do Japanese parents also heavily influence their kids to pursue majors that they think are worthy?
  • taggy 2019.08.25 08:03

    KR
    EN

@Ori_Ulani idk think it's their parent's job. Most of the students are like that so a student may have some possibilities to get brainwashed like "oh everyone lives like that so I have to live like that too". I think they should see other worlds and polly need subjective thinking by experiences rather than studying too much.

    @taggy I agree with you

@Ori_Ulani I don’t think so. Of cause, there are some parents who force their kids to choose their preference majors. But it’s not so common at least around me. We have more choices than Chinese and Korean.
