11th November 1919, crowds in London observe the very first '2 minute silence' for those killed in the Great War (World War I). The men have removed their hats out of respect for the fallen. (@StuartHumphreys on Twitter)

Every year, on the Sunday closest to November 11th (known as Remembrance Sunday), the British public will fall silent as Big Ben rings at 11am, for 2 minutes, out of respect and remembrance for those killed in war. It is a tradition still observed today in the UK.

@송시후 the Royal Family and some members of Parliament still did meet in central London to lay wreaths of Poppy flowers 🙂 but there were no crowds, no public present. It was televised, though!
