Happy Sunday! ✨
Sometimes there's moments in language exchange
conversation, where the language and words flows out of my mind and mouth with ease and effortlessness. I don't have to think it just happens. Then in other times, it's like the tap has been turned tightly in the off position. No words are coming out and it all just feels dry and empty...
Anyway, I don't know what it is? Why it happens. I only know that it happen sometimes when I play music.
For anyone who plays an instrument, maybe you've experienced this too. When you practise and practise and practise. The one time you have to perform/ or in language conversation, exchange conversation with someone. Everything changes...
The way you played before in practise doesn't feel like the way you are playing in front of someone. You think differently and treat the moment with a whole other tact.
I once heard Language is a lot like Jazz and I believe it to be true. When you start a conversation you have to listen to the other person/ or persons in the conversation and react spontaneously , then add or continue the conversation by expressing your own thoughts or ideas, only to then be interjected by someone else, doing the same thing without much planning, just quick, raw on the spot thinking. The conversation could be short like a 1 minute piece of music or drag out like trains of thought that continue with no ending in sight.
Yeah, Language and Jazz improvisation has a lot in common I think.
Anway, to sum up my thoughts. I can say there's no failure in speaking and practising language. No fail to pass or score (unless your are indeed studying to pass an exam) but in general no time you fail and can't continue. It just keeps going and you try, and try again...
