Living in Seoul! My opinion on the good and bad 🇰🇷
Good 👍
1.
Food is so good and cheap! There is a lot of competition in Korea so you will get tasty food almost anywhere. Plus, you can have food delivered 24/7. Be prepared to gain some weight 😂 2. 온돌! Even if you don't know what this is, you will thank Jesus for it during the winter time. The heated floor will make your room cozy. Just don't invite your friends with stinky feet 😩
3. Transportation is affordable and easy to navigate. If you're in a rush, just grab a taxi ahjusshi and he'll drive super fast and crazy to get you where you need to be. Subway is clean and directions are easy for foreigners.
4. Convenience store every block. You don't need to walk far to get some 신라면 or 🍌 우유...
5. No tipping culture. Eating out is great since you're not paying 20% more.
6. If you like night life, 서울 is the place for you. Koreans drink and party quite frequently. Soju 🍻🍻🍻 Prepare your liver! Don't say I didn't warn you.
Many more pros, but I'm 🛑 here.
Bad 👎
1. Angry ahjuma. So scary. Run away! 🏃아줌마s can be your best or worst friend. Be respectful and courteous.
2. Stinky streets. If you live near a restaurant, it's gonna smell, since the trash bags are left outside the street until the garbage truck picks them up.
3. Appearance based culture. You're kind of expected to behave a certain way and being attractive is one of the most desirable trait. That's why there is pressure for getting plastic surgery. If you don't know what 눈치 본다 means, you'll experience it. Koreans tend to be a bit nosy when something is out of the norm, so they comment on it even though it's none of their business.
4. Group circle exists, so it is not easy making close friends.
Remember that all cultures have their pros and cons, that is what makes each culture unique and fun to experience!
