“In the bag”

If something is “in the bag,

” it means that your task or endeavor is nearly certain to succeed. Maybe you are playing on a football team against a poor opponent. You could say that your victory is “in the bag” before the match begins. Or maybe you are going to give a presentation that you have practiced many times before. You would say your presentation is “in the bag.”
