Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina
.The gardens at Magnolia are the last, intact, large scale Romantic Gardens in the United States. This type of garden originated in Europe and was man’s attempt to return to nature. In the 1830’s, Rev. John Grimke Drayton expanded the gardens at Magnolia into the romantic style in order to create an “earthly paradise” between humanity and the natural world.
