I’ve noticed a lot of people learning English who do not completely
finish the words they speak. This is especially common when a word ends with a “t” sound. For example, people might pronounce the word “patient” as “patien” and not put any emphasis on the “t” sound. It is important to at least acknowledge there is a “t” in the word. You do not need to treat it as another syllable but the sound must be there.
In another example, both words “statue” and “statute” have 2 syllables, however if you do not pronounce the third “t” in the word “statute”, you run the risk of saying “statue” instead. If that happens, only contextual clues will give the listener an idea of which word you’re saying.
Send me a voice message of you speaking one of the above paragraphs and I will correct your pronunciation 🙂
