New Zealand Kiwi culture - day at the beach
Every winter we
like to go to Raglan beach. This beach is on the wild rugged west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Although it may look like it in some of the pictures, it is not mudflats. It is firm black sand. The black colour comes from the iron in the sand, which can be quite fun if you have a magnet with you. The sand is very fine and smooth and sticks to your skin easily. The beach gets very hot in the summer sun and every Kiwi knows you have to run quickly up the beach to your jandles after taking a dip in the sea least your feet burn horribly.
We like long walks and playing with whatever we find on the beach. And if there is a piece of driftwood lying around, what better fun than to see if you can tip it over 😄
