to "lose the plot" is an expression you can use when you want expression that you or someone else no longer understands a situation or knows how to deal with it, or that someone starts behaving in a strange or silly way

"I swear I'm losing the plot... I've been cooped up inside for the last 2 week's on government lockdown..."

"my mum lost the plot when she found out I was still partying after being swing diagnosed with Corona..."
