Yep, it's french for (please respond) Repondez, s'il vous plaît

RSVP is a French abbreviation that means "Respond if you please" in English. So if you want to attend the bbq party, the RSVP lets you know at you should contact the person who sent the invitation to let them know you want to attend ☺️

Repondez, s'il vous plaît (RSVP) It's just a way to sound very posh (because you are using French, oh so fancy) Just means "respond if you can", to allow the inviter to make preparations.

It's means "Response, Please" or you must reply the invitation

It means that the person who invited you would like for you to tell them whether or not you can come to the event.

Apparently it comes from the French “Répondez s'il vous plaît,” which means something like “respond please” in English.

Yes, it comes from French, but is used on pretty much every invitation in English. As others said, it means the host wants you to let them know if you can come, and usually there's a date by which to respond.

Usually it has a time limit attached to it i.e rsvp by 1st July so they can organise numbers and catering.
