HOスケールのてつどう
もけいもあつめています。 - I even collect HO scale model trains. 🚄 This is a continuation of my story from yesterday. The second part of my day was dedicated to photographing the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad, which is located pretty close to home. I have never been able to catch a steam train there in action, the only other time I was in the right spot at the right time the engine used was a diesel engine. 😓 This time, I first stopped at the upper station (Silver Plume) to take some pictures and then took position above the tracks to capture the passing train before moving below the signature bridge to catch the returning train. I lucked out as you can see in the photos!
Here is a brief history. This train line originates in the Gold Rush days of the 1880s built to serve the mines and was later used for passenger service as well until it was sadly shut down in 1939 and completely dismantled. Then, it was rebuilt and reopened in 1984 as a tourist attraction with a short 5 km run. Three steam engines are in operation today.
