🌺Today, October 9th is <한글날 Hangul Day>. 한글 was invented by King
Sejong in 1443. Since East Asian countries did not have their characters, they had been used Chinese characters(한자漢字) for a long time. However, there are more than 50,000 한자漢字 and 2,000 to 5,000 letters in real life, so only the aristocracy who could get higher education can use it.King Sejong, created 한글 after a long study with linguistic scholars. King Sejong wrote the reason as follows.
"📜Since our language is different from China,
the letters and speech do not match.
For this reason, there are many uneducated people who can't express what they want to say.
I have pity on this and have made 28 letters.
It is just for everyone learn and use it easily."
Yes, 한글 is filled with the king's love and pity for his people. That's why all Koreans respect and love King Sejong.
한자漢字 are expressing 'the meaning'. One letter is one word(ex: the word '人' means 'person') By the way, 한글 expresses 'the sound'. Just write 'as it sounds' like the Latin alphabet.
When 한글 was first created, the number of letters was 28, Now the total number of basic consonants and vowels in modern 한글was 24(14 consonants, 10 vowels). The consonants of 한글 were built according to the shape of the phonetic organs in which the sounds were made(tongue, teeth, throat and lips etc.) and the vowels of 한글 were made according to the three most important elements of Oriental philosophy (See this post👉http://asq.kr/9zF7iNu49nE1).
Should Korean learners learn 한자漢字? About 70 percent of Korean words come from 한자. So knowing the origin of 한자 helps a lot. If you know the most commonly used basic 한자, you can infer the meaning frm the words in which the letters(words) are used. www.howtostudykorean.com is introducing basic 한자.(👉http://asq.kr/7knqNHa07caT)
