Idiom of the Day:
“To draw a blank”
If you “draw a blank,”
you have completely forgotten about what you were thinking about. Have you ever gotten up to go into the kitchen, and once you’re there, you have completely forgotten about why you’re in the kitchen? That’s “drawing a blank.” This idiom comes from lotteries held in the 1500’s. In one bucket were names written on pieces of paper; in another bucket were prizes - also with “blanks”. They would pull out a person’s name, and then pull out a prize. If they drew your name and drew a “blank” piece of paper, you got no prize.Download the HelloTalk app to join the conversation.
