いつ か、ここで スキーをしたいですね。- One day I'd like to go skiing here. ⛷

This is a continuation of my travel journal - summer camping trip, Part 8:

We completed the hike for the day and it was time for me to show my daughter the ski resort. The resort sits just above town and you can get to it via a free gondola. The ride up gives you nice views over the box canyon and surrounding peaks. The ski resort is world class, expansive and features pretty challenging runs. In the summer, the area is popular with vacationers as well. You can hike, ride mountain bikes and golf.

The gondola features four stations. We had little time, so we got out at the mountain village and walked around for a little bit. You can just see from the shops and hotels that this place attracts tourists with deep pockets. Everything is nicely maintained and the flowers planted all over really caught my attention. There were several types of columbines and other flowers and I tried to take some shots in the limited time we had.

The mountain is pocked with opulent vacation homes. There is a long list of celebrities who own property there: Jerry Seinfeld, Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey and of course Jewel, who resides in Telluride for part of the year. Telluride is lower profile than Aspen or Vail, somewhat off the beaten path, but perhaps even more spectacular.

The last photo shows the gondola and village station. It would have been nice to linger, order a coffee and just sit back and relax, but we needed to get back to camp.
