Idiom of the Day

“Cross your fingers” &
“Knock on wood”

These

two idioms have very similar meanings. To “cross your fingers” or to “knock on wood” is to ask for favor, luck, protection, blessings, or a small wish to come true. We may say, “Well, today is my interview day - cross my fingers I get the job.” Or, “Everyone at work is sick except me. Let’s hope I stay healthy - knock on wood.” In both cases, you are hoping that God, nature, fate, etc. will reward you.

Sir, Is "fingers crossed" and "cross your fingers are same"? I heard somewhere in context when someone don't want to speak anything about a matter and said like wait, keep fingers crossed. Or it was indicating like let happen the way it want.

@Goal0321 yes, either way is saying the same thing. They are hoping that luck will follow them.

@Thương Phan yes this is also similar, but it is wishing someone good luck specifically during a performance in front of a crowd.
