English dialogue and expressions : online dating

Jen: Hey,

so what's new with you these days?

Tina: Oh, not much. But I did start doing online dating.

Jen: Nice! How's that going?

Tina: It's like finding a needle in a haystack. I mean, they don't have to look like movie stars but I'm so tired of guys with facial hair—shaggy beards and bushy eyebrows. Gross.

Jen: So what are you looking for?

Tina: Nothing complicated. Someone with an athletic build, outgoing personality, and a good sense of humour. Shouldn't be too difficult, right?

Totally discriminatory against tramps like me that have alternative shaving lifestyles. So disappointed.

Why did you use "I did start doing..." and not "I started doing..."?

@Lucky 王乐乐 I thought you were joking sorry, it’s not formal 😂 Tramp here just means a homeless person but we often use it to mean a person whose habits are disgusting. It can also mean a woman who has sex with a lot of people but I think that’s pretty rare now
