There’s a famous Australian bush ballad about a swaggie who camped

by a billabong. When he was arrested for stealing sheep, he jumped into the water and drowned himself. It’s said you can still hear his ghost as you pass by.

This probably isn’t the same billabong, but there are definitely things in it that make very strange noises at night. Bunyips maybe.
