A few tips from Todd!
Having been using this app for several
years now, I have seen many new members come and then leave after a few weeks presumably frustrated. The following are my personal recommendations on how to get more out of this app.
PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE JUST MY SUGGESTIONS, OTHERS MAY DISAGREE AND THAT’S OKAY!
Assuming you are a non-English speaker attempting to improve your English, you should realize that there are many more non-English speakers trying to learn English than vice versa.
If you wish to increase your chances of finding someone to help you, I suggest the following:
1.)Write your Chinese name in English or find an English name. This will make it easier for English speakers to remember who you are.
2.)Upload a pleasant picture of yourself looking friendly. (Personally I find the cat/bunny/dog face pics many younger people upload very silly, but that's just my opinion).
3.)Complete your self introduction (much better in English or with a translation). Include something interesting about yourself, that will encourage people to take an interest.
4.)Upload some interesting pics as moments showing people something about your life, personality or your interests.
5.) Please read your new friend’s self introduction before asking questions.
6.) Please don’t start a conversation with;
“Can you teach me English?”
Often times these messages will be ignored.
7.) Have fun!
8.) ⚠️ Warning ⚠️
There are many scammers, cheaters, etc... on this app. If you come in contact with one, please report them to the Hellotalk admins.
