Idiom of the Day
“Missed the boat”
If you “missed the boat
,” you were too late. It’s like missing your train or bus ride to your destination. Maybe a business opportunity called you and left a message, but you didn’t check the message for three days. After you called them back, they had already found someone else to do business with. You “missed the boat” on that opportunity. “There were huge sales at the mall this past weekend, but I didn’t make it to the mall until Wednesday. I missed the boat on a lot of savings.”
