English Language Learning Tip

#1 create a list of books that

have been adapted into a movie or shows

- Watch the movie/show first with subtitles

- After watching the movie, read the book the
movie was inspired by or listen to the Audible

- Go back and watch the Movie again but this
time without subtitles

This method has been shown to help with word recognition and promote word retention.

I usually advise people to read the screenplay first because they are easier to read and take less time. Most American TV shows have already been translated so English version and the translation are often side by side.

One recommendation for English learners, do also try to watch more current shows or movies. Period dramas, set in the 1800’s, do not always reflect well the way native English speakers speak in 2021.

I’ve got the worst reading habits. Shallow movie adaptations always do it for me. With that being said, Pride and Prejudice with Keira is one of the greatest romcoms I’ve seen.

Pride and Prejudice is my all time favorite! Austen was ahead of her time and had really progressive ideas. I agree with the suggestion of using more contemporary books for language though. Here is a list of YA adaptations. The language level is a little easier and more contemporary than you usually find in adult adaptations. https://www.google.com/amp/s/bookriot.com/ya-movie-adaptations-guide/amp/

@Marie In China, it's easier to find everything, especially American TV shows. I'm doing an English corner using the TV show, The Good Place, where we read and analyze the dialogue and then test their ability to understand the idioms in context.
