@Mario SS When deciding whether to use is or are, look at whether the noun is plural or singular. If the noun is singular, use is. If it is plural or there is more than one noun, use are. Just FYI

@Lucky 王乐乐 Thank you Lucky. In spanish we use “gente” (people) in singular: “La gente es amable”. For that reason many spanish people use the singular when are talking about people.

@Lucky 王乐乐 In plural we say: Las personas son amables (People are kind), but if we use “gente”, we say La gente es amable (singular)

Is it still the same when we're referring to "people" as a single race or nation? E.g., can we say, "There was no people in the Middle East who voted against the proposal."?

@Lydia a single race is still a group of people because there’s more than one people in that single race

People are always talking about him. Las personas siempre están hablando de él. The people in the room were starting to get nervous. Las personas en la habitación estaban comenzando a ponerse nerviosas. ☺️

Their is only one race the Human race, that is the biological and scientific terms. People describes a group or number of humans in an area. The plural of person should be people in the vast majority of contexts, although legalese uses the plural persons. Peoples should be reserved for instances where you are referring to more than one distinct ethnic group.
