Idiom of the Day
“Smoke and mirrors”
Sometimes people use illusion
to confuse or misdirect people. Sometimes they use illusion to altogether avoid communication or confrontation. Politicians, business executives, and so on are stereotyped of saying a lot of words without actually answering any questions. In the US, we say this is all “smoke and mirrors.” If someone tries to be sneaky and clever, sort of like a con man pulling off a scam, they are using “smoke and mirrors” to confuse you.Download the HelloTalk app to join the conversation.
