Common American Saying:
“If it was a snake, it would have bit
you.” We Americans will say this as an exaggeration when someone can’t find something that is right in front of them. Sometimes a wife will tell this to her husband, or a parent will say this to children. It is said usually out of frustration or exasperation.
“Daddy, where are my shoes?”
“Have you closed your eyes? They are right in front of you! If they were a snake, it would have bit you.”
