Can someone tell me what's ok to do in Indonesia and what's not

ok to do. Every country has social and unspoken rules. I don't want to offend anyone while I'm visiting accidentally.

Hi! In Indonesia always friendly with people who have good behavior, Respecting culture that exists, and another way to communicate when the first person meets local people here is with a smile. Maybe that's it

@alvinnickykarl Yes but I don't know much about the culture that's why I'm asking this. Good behavior is different in every country. Good practice in one country and still be rude in another.

Don't give anything using your left hand. Do it when giving something using the right hand. Maybe this is, hopefully it helps 😊

Indonesian people usually ask for photo to foreigner, eat with hands instead of spoon and fork, and there is no tissue in toilet

Maybe because we consider caucasian people are advanced in many ways than ours, and some of us are really proud to have international friends, so they might ask you for selfie with them, like pretend to have foreigners friend 😂 And also not many foreigners here like USA, except Bali

Indonesian do very little physical contact, only shake hands.. Indonesian who do a lot of physical/skin touch with other people will usually be considered bad, but not for those who have relationships.

Take ur sandal or shoes off before entering someone's home (for visiting), most of us are curious about ur age, don't feel offended because it's a common question here. If u pass someone older than u, please smile n bend down a bit it's a polite gesture. N maybe some girls with scarf will reject to handshake with you, it's not bcs we aren't polite but bcs they are religious one.

Medan city does not have a crossing bridge. You must use your right hand to stop the vehicle. but be careful because the vehicle runs fast.

Dont dirty talk at recreation tourist attraction. Example if you go to lake toba. If you on ship in lake toba. You will get disasteraccording to belief in lake toba. Jangan cakap kotor di tempat wisata. Contohnya di danau toba. Jika kamu naik kapal di danau toba dan cakap kotor. Menurut kepercayaan warga sekitar kamu akan mendapatkan mala petaka☺

Just smile! People from Indonesia, especially on the island of Java, appreciate the polite smile of foreign people they are introducing, and they will certainly give you a smile back. Friendliness is in their nature, so you should just be relaxed. When you are approaching older people, it is considered as a really polite gesture to bend down a bit. Not all of the people actually do that, but it shows your respect and older people will appreciate it, especially if they notice that you come from another country. When you are talking to someone, you should use following titles which will make you sound more respectful and polite: Bapak for men Ibu for women Mas for boys Mbak for girls

Call persons who older than you with "bapak/pak+his name(male, age above 27)" and "bu+her name(female, age above 27)". In order to be more polite

I think its depend on where will you go? Bcs every place has their own rules and their taboo. Like if you go to Bali, they have "ritual offering" and if you walk in the street and hit that, please ask the owner what should you do to get their apologies

Yeah, it depends to where area that you are going to. I can say in Bali, you only have to smile and greet the people. Many people when you pass by will say "Hello, sir! Where are from?" Just respond them, many of them just want to practice their English with natives. Don't be rude, driving safely. Because recently there are many foreigners breaking the rules when they are riding motorbike. Rest, don't worry too much, since many foreigners are visiting Bali, they will try to understand your culture too... Hope these could help you.

I think there are many good suggestions here, I want to add one more thing. if you go to a traditional market, you should be able to bargain with polite, for example "mahal sekali, bolehkan harganya dikurangi?" and with smile. Because sometimes in traditional markets they will give high prices to tourists
