A poem by Uesugi Kenshin.
Forty-nine years, but one night’s
dream. A whole glorious life no more than a mouthful of sake.
Of life and death, what have I truly understood?
Beyond Heaven and Hell,
I stand here in the brightening light of the moon,
Free from the clouds of attachment.
