Creating flower arrangements to honor ancestors
Today my sister
was working to create silk floral bouquets to place on the graves of our Father, his Mother, our Mother and a Great Aunt. She is quite skillful with this. She has always been creative & artistic, but she graduated with a science degree and did biology research. She worked in Linus Pauling’s lab.
Her husband went to MIT for his graduate degree & their family transferred to Boston for two years. She didn’t know people in Boston and decided to sign-up for art classes at Harvard. She had an elder art professor that encouraged her talent. She became good at watercolor painting and calligraphy.
Working with her today was a bit emotional. Realized again, that our American elders are gone, except for a Aunt we will visit Sunday. She has dementia, but is still able to recognize that she is losing her memories.
