#13 What We Talk About When We Talk About
Love by Raymond Carver. This is the second short story collection by Raymond Carver and like the previous book it also gives insights into American life in the mid 20th century. Carver continues his minimal writing style and tells us these stories in a mostly straightforward manner though leaves many elements unsaid and allows the reader to make their own interpretations. The stories feature a wide assortment of characters and give us a brief look into some melancholic moments in their lives.
This collection didn't have the strong impact that the previous collection: Will You Please Be Quiet, Please? had on me but it was nonetheless excellent. The stories are quite memorable and whilst character names may not stay with you, their stories and struggles are sure to.
My rating: 8.7/10
