I’ve photographed Maligne Lake on Spirit island. Definitely one

of the most beautiful lakes in the Canadian Rockies. Stunning and breathtaking beauty. You feel like you’re in a game or movie scene. There’s also an interesting story about how this island is popular.


In the 1940s the Kodak company sent photographer Peter Gales to get images to promote Kodak film. One shot he took was of a tiny island in Jasper’s Maligne Lake. The photo was enlarged to mural-size and displayed in New York City’s Grand Central Station.


Millions of people were exposed to this little-known piece of wilderness in the Canadian Rockies, and the island’s fame quickly spread.


And today this island is still untouched. Respect and many thanks to all who protect this place.
