On our second day of vacation, we explored the Luray caverns
in Virginia. We were very surprised by how expansive the caves were. It is the largest caverns in the Eastern United States. There was a type of stalactite formation that resembled a drapery. We learned that as flowstone grows larger, they become long and thin, sometimes translucent, to resemble a delicate curtain. The cavern is also home to the largest musical instrument in the world, the Great Stalacpipe Organ. It uses stalactites as tone sources and the music was amazing. It took us an hour and a half to walk through the entire cavern.Download the HelloTalk app to join the conversation.
