The Eagle by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

A Fragment.

HE clasps the

crag with hookèd hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ringed with the azure world, he stands.

The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

    I am always happy to read Tennyson's poems. Along with Walter Scott he must be among my favourite poets.

    These paintings are of Harpy Eagles. They are the largest rainforest eagles and often hunt monkeys out of trees. I sometimes think they look uncanny when viewed face to face, like a person in a bird costume, so they are a little scary. 😅
