Reason vs Purpose

Why do you eat food?

Reason

:
I eat food because I’m hungry.

Purpose:
I eat food so that I have energy.

I was teaching a lesson yesterday and suddenly this graphic came to me. Reasons are based on the past. Purposes are based on the future. Both answers are good. It’s up to you. I love Jones Soda because it tastes great. I drank it so that I won’t be thirsty.

I enjoyed lettering this. Maybe I should make a grammar book and call it “Elegant English by Ernest.” Hmmm 🤔

    Reason: I study English because I want to understand English movies without using subtitles. Purpose: I study English so that I understand English movies more directly. I still have a long way to go. 😅

    If you make a grammar book, I definitely buy it! I study English for me! To blight up my life more! I learn a lot of things from learning English. Not only English as a language, but also the way of thinking!

    @Israa 😄✨ It’s interesting bottle label, isn’t it? This company receives submissions from fans and then print it on the labels. So there are thousands of different labels. The pen is the secret to beautiful writing ✍️ in the modern era. 😊

    @ジジ Gigi Most don’t see a difference because both are an acceptable answer to the question ‘why?’. Hence, it’s used interchangeably. But they are two different words. And you’ll notice mission statements always use the language of purpose, never reason. They’re looking forward. It’s not so much a time concept but a cause and effect relationship. I’m trying to refine my teaching points so it’s easier for students to use. 😌

    @ernest If I get a chance, I'll send them this sentence Love with all your senses, with all your depths🤍 I discovered that the pen has magic touches, but your good writing skill of course is the reason, capabilities + skills = creativity🕊 With regard to the question asked I noticed that the answer will always be to learn a new language But in fact the purpose is so that I can hear well and see well and break the glass box When I can't understand something, it makes me feel like I'm inside a glass box and I see language people outside move their mouths ,just I can't hear what they're saying This feeling bothers me too much!! The reason is that I also want to communicate with them so that I understand them Language is communication 😅
