Are you having trouble making friends or finding language partners
on HelloTalk? Two Tips for Finding Language Partners
1.)If you want a good language exchange partner, first you must make a good friend!
👉Don’t just say, “Hello! Will you teach me English?” HelloTalk isn’t an app for finding a free language teacher. It’s an app for practicing your language and for helping each other. But it is important to remember...
👉YOU MUST SELF-STUDY👈
If you have materials to study English or the language you are learning, then study them in your free time and practice what you are learning with your language partners. This is why I make English learning posts. You can study them and then practice with your partners.
2.) Be interesting!
✅If you just send a message saying “Hi”,
you will most likely not get a reply. Create an interesting introduction for yourself.
“Hello! My name is_____. I’m from ______. What is your favorite spicy food?”
An intro like this will get more attention because you are asking an interesting question, not just begging for help. Ask something that isn’t a yes or no question.
“Can you recommend a good movie for me to watch?”
“Do you think it’s better to travel in your country in the winter, or summer?”
“What’s your favorite season? Why?”
These are great engaging questions to get a good reply back from someone.
If you say, “I will teach you _____ and you teach me English. Ok?” this doesn’t sound friendly. It sounds like a business deal.
Get to know your partners! Ask about their life! Be friendly! Be kind! Be patient! Be courteous! And most of all... be INTERESTING!
If you do these things, I promise you will have more success finding great language partners and you will make some great friends in the process!
