I was feeling distressed yesterday and without anyone to talk
to about it I called an organisation known as Samaritans. The call was really helpful and I felt much better after it. In the UK anyone can call them and the call is completely confidential. The simple act of talking to another person and having them listen really helped me.I hope that anyone who struggles with something can have the opportunity to speak to someone about it. Sometimes all we need is a patient and listening ear that we can share our struggles with. It saddens me to think of all the people who have been unable to do this.
I then read about Samaritans and discovered that the organisation was founded in 1953 by a vicar that learned about the tragic suicide of a fourteen year old girl who, having begun her first period, mistakenly feared that she had an STD. He later said "Little girl, I didn't know you, but you have changed the rest of my life for good." (Quote from Wikipedia.)
I believe organisations like this can play an important role in helping people who have nowhere else to turn.
I wondered about other countries too and so I want to ask if in your country there is an organisation like this?
