Want to sound EXTRA polite?

Usually, it’s enough to just say

“thank you” or “no, thank you” and so not everyone does this all of the time, but I like to add these words and phrases when I speak to sound extra polite: ☺️

•Thank you for asking
•I appreciate it/I appreciate you
•Please/ Yes, please — and sometimes you might hear pretty please ☺️

✔️Thank you for asking — I always like to add on “thank you for asking” which means ... even if I said no, I want to thank you for thinking of me and offering.

A: Hey, did you bring lunch today?
B: No, I forgot to. I didn’t have time to pack anything.
A: Would you like half of my sandwich?
B: No thank you. I’ll just go down to the cafeteria and buy something. Thank you for asking though.

✔️I really appreciate it/ I appreciate you/ I appreciate all that you do

A: Okay, I know you’re not feeling well so I already washed the dishes and finished doing your laundry.
B: You didn’t have to do all of that for me.
A: It’s okay. You can’t even get out of bed. This is what friends are for.
B: Thank you so much. I really appreciate you.

(Please):
So instead of just saying ...
Can you help me carry this suitcase?
I add please—
•Can you please help me carry this heavy suitcase?
•Can you help me carry this heavy suitcase please?

•Help me with my homework please.

(Yes, please):
Would you like some coffee? Yes.
•Would you like some coffee? Yes, please.

(Pretty please):
A: Mom, I really need a new pair of shoes. Can we go to the store this weekend?
B: But didn’t I just buy you a pair of shoes last month? You don’t need another pair.
A: Mom, but all of my friends have these shoes. Please, mom? Please, mom? Pretty please?

(The use of “pretty please” is almost like begging and sometimes you may hear someone literally saying “... pretty please? I’m begging you.”)
