Idiom of the Day:
“Scot-free”
If you are “scot-free,” this
means to say that you are free and clear of any consequences. Maybe when you were younger, you snuck out of your house without your parents knowing, and returned without waking them. We would say, “I got away with it scot-free.” You can also use this expression for avoiding legal consequences from breaking the law, but it would sound like you are bragging. The term “scot-free” comes from people not paying their taxes in old times.Download the HelloTalk app to join the conversation.
