Meaning-to
be embarrassed by something unexpected that happens. Example: “When the boss started asking me questions, I was clearly caught with my pants down and looked like a total fool. I hadn’t considered all of the possible options and didn’t know what to say.”
“The media was caught with their pants down when the story was proved to be false.”
