ロングハイキングはすきですか? - Do you like long hikes?
This is the second
batch of photos from my hike the previous Sunday. From the waterfall I continued on the trail to make sort of a loop. There were more nice views with impressive rock formations. I promised you surprise encounters. The deer I came upon on the trail was rather not unexpected, although it did take me by surprise when I was suddenly standing just a couple of meters away. The deer was surprised as well and stood there for a while as I was reaching for my camera. It then moved into the trees a bit and that's when I took that photo.
The next creature did surprise me! To be honest, I was hoping to be able to photograph a woodpecker ever since I got back into photography, but it's always been elusive. So as I was walking down the trail, I heard hammering. As I turned to the right, there it was, less than ten meters away. It's a Hairy Woodpecker. It did not seem to mind me at all, I was snapping pictures as it was busily hammering on the dead fallen tree. I was happy it gave me time to get away with a few sharp photos(#4,#5,#6).
Then, just an hour and half later, I heard hammering again. I moved towards the sound, away from the trail, but I almost walked right by the bird. This one is called Williamson's Sapsucker (#7). Very handsome, don't you think? Two species of woodpecker in one day, so precious!
The chipmunk is always an easy subject. This one was chomping on a pine cone. :)
As I was getting close to the parking lot, the clouds really started building and the rumble of thunder could be heard. I was happy I got back without trouble. In total I covered 21.5 km in 7.5 hours - my longest hike this season so far.
