Just a request to native English speakers. If you are correcting

a non native English persons post, please don’t correct words that are written using British English spelling to that of American English or vice versa, this will not help the “learner” as either are completely acceptable and it just depends on which version they have been learning.

    That is right. I want to add that, due to a little glitch, sometimes the puts words in green that were not even modified.

    @Vast yeah sometimes the software glitches but I’ve seen a few lately where the OP has written something like labour, favour, neighbour etc, and someone has corrected it to the American English version, I’ve seen the same with the “s vs z” difference like recognise and recognize.

    @Alan I understand. It has been awhile since I looked into the differences. Though I am still remember the ones that you mentioned. It would be good for me to get reacquainted with the basics of it again.

    Thanks for doing this, but to be honest, as one of the majority users on this app, some native speaker willing to correct your writing is already a bonus, so other things can be neglected

    @Vast a very general rule is that if a word ends in “our” in British (Canadian and Australian) English it is usually just “or” in American English, also words that end in “ise” in British English are often changed to “ize” in American.

    @CHSX yeah I get that, but if someone is already correcting your post then they don’t need to correct things that do not need correcting, in fact it is less work for them lol, it’s difficult enough to learn another language without being told that the things you thought you had learned correctly (and had) are wrong.

    @Alan Honestly, do you really believe everyone on this app is good with their mother tongue? I constantly see Chinese providing poor correction and the receivers cannot tell. I think it's the same on the other way around. That's just something you need to deal with if you get the free service

    @CHSX yeah I guess your right on that issue, just don’t want people feeling confused about why what they thought was right was changed, especially if it’s by people that are just being pedantic because a user has written it one format and not the other.

    @Vast I didn't say the post was meaningless, I'm just saying there are bigger problems to be fixed. And as a matter of fact, I'm suspicious about how correcting really benefits those beginners. You cannot learn a language by being corrected, you need to develop the sense of that language by other approaches. So I guess it's good to tell people not to take corrections so seriously.

    @CHSX I rather encourage those doing such corrections to do better than flat out tell learners to not take corrections seriously. Though I would also want to tell learners to take it with a grain of salt, and combine their learning with other more reliable sources, especially, if they are learning the language for more serious reasons. Corrections have their benefits, however, I think that they should be combined with other methods of learning.

    @Vast Yeah, that's what I'm trying to say. "Not to take corrections seriously" wasn't accurate, I meant not to take them too seriously, not to fixate on them
