日本で暮らしている5年の間ここで一番いい買ったものはこたつです。
In my five years

of living in Japan, the best purchase I ever made was my kotatsu.

日本に来る前よくアニメとかでこの商品を見って、ずっと気になったから、やっと日本に来た時、秋になって気温下がると、直ぐにこたつを買いました。
Before coming to Japan I would often see this appliance in anime and I always dreamed of having my own, so when I finally came to Japan and once the temperature got colder in the fall, I bought one at once.

近所のリサイクルショップで5000円で4人まで入れるこたつを買いました。六帖のアパートにしてはこたつはかなり大きいから一面壁に対して置かないといけません。
I found one that can seat up to four people in a neighborhood recycle shop for ¥5000. For an apartment size of six tatami mats it’s quite large, so I need to push one side against the wall.

なんでカナダでまだこたつが発売にならないかさっぱりわかりません。特に寒くて長い冬の国としてこたつはちょうどふさわしいと思うはずのに、ここで全然売っていません。本当に残念です。
Why the kotatsu is not sold in Canada yet is a mystery to me. For a country that has especially cold and long winters you would think a kotatsu would be perfect, but sadly you cannot find them there at all.

たとえできるとしたら、こたつをもって帰るけど、残念ながら重過ぎって出来なくてしまいます。
If I could, I would bring one back with me, but unfortunately since it’s big and heavy it would be too difficult.
帰る日まで、日本でこたつの寝心地さを楽しみます。
Until that day comes, I will enjoy the coziness of the kotatsu in Japan.
