On August 21, 2017, I tagged along with a group of Astronomy
nerds for a five days trip to take part in the so called the Great American Eclipse. It was one of those rare total solar eclipse that was visible within a band that spanned across the entire United States. From the Pacific all the way to the Atlantic coasts (reasons why they call it the Great American Eclipse). So, the nearest and the best location for viewing the eclipse, that was also the closest to California, is a 12 hours drive up north to Rexburg, Idaho (a rural Mormon community, surrounded by potato farms). It was quite an adventure, I remembered. The traffic going there and back was insane! However, the eclipse in itself was such a surreal experience, something that I will always remember for years to come.
