Who is a foodie here? Anyone heard of Huitlacoche aka Corn Fungus

or
Corn Smut?🤔
Huitlacoche is a fungus and it is a delicacy in some places. Corn fungus grew in our corn patch and the deer would not eat it. 🦌😆
My husband, a foodie, knew of this fungus. We ate it for the first time, though I was hesitant to try it initially. It tasted earthy...adding with eggs, corn, and herbs was good.👌

Last two pictures indicate how much corns were devoured by the deer. 🦌 🦌🦌

    Corn smut! 🤣😂 Whoa! This looks a little.. ooh! Never heard of this happening in corn. I had to google it up. Well, it says it’s safe to eat, but certain parts of the fungus are not edible. Wow, the deers are really causing a nuisance. What a picky bunch.

    @Νίκος Corn fungus doesn’t have much flavor so the deer left it alone. Agreed, it doesn’t look appetizing. 😅 I’m glad to try it. 👍

    @Atsuko It’s okay. We were able to have about 15 corns to ourselves.🤗 Now we know how much deer love corns. 🌽🌽😁

    @Marine Have you eaten mushrooms?🍄 They are fungus. I like shiitake mushrooms. 😋 Deer did not eat the fungus. It doesn’t have a smell. Deer likes to eat sweet corn. 🌽
