あつい日にはつめたいおゆがとてもさわやかでした! - The cold water was so refreshing on
a hot day! This is a continuation of my Yellowstone Trip report last August.
🔸️Day 8, Part 3:
I am going to devote a whole post to just one spot, but I felt it was truly special and I really treasure the photos I made that day.
We are still in Biscuit Basin on the west side of the park near Old Faithful. When I researched hikes I came upon this trail to Mystic Falls. Not a long trail, but one I have not hiked before. It was the mid-day heat that made it a bit strenuous, but what a reward! Mystic Falls drops 70 feet (21 m) into the Little Firehole River and you get to see the river first, a little below the falls. I took the opportunity to cool off by wading into the water and taking in the lush scenery at the same time. Then you hike a short distance upstream to arrive at a viewpoint over the falls.
Now, I have seen a lot of waterfalls in my life, but this is certainly one of the most picturesque I have ever come across. Just a perfect spot, with the rocks and vegetation, it looks like a fantasy painting. I could have stood there for a long time, but I only had a few moments. My exhausted daughter had no energy to come up there with me and was waiting for me below... 😆
On the way back, we passed by some more thermal features in the basin.
I have one more episode to describe on this day, as we still had a long afternoon and evening of wildlife viewing to look forward to after this.
To be continued....
