I didn’t become a fan of natto until recently. Its stinky smell and slimy texture made it something that I could easily do without.
As I started getting older though, I also began to think more about my diet. I don’t have any health concerns now (aside from needing reading glasses to work on this cell phone screen) and plan to lead a vigorous life until I’m at least one hundred years old, maybe even longer.
With this in mind, I slowly began to reduce the the amount of meat I consume and replaced it with more vegetarian fare. To transition from meat based protein, I began eating more soy products and that lead me back to natto.
Since becoming aware of the nutritional benefits of natto, I am eating it more frequently. Gradually, I began to like it and eat it over rice several times a week now.
Are there any other Japanese superfoods that I should be eating?
